Tour of Jacobus Vrel, Forerunner of Vermeer

With the exhibit at the Rijksmuseum, we have all seen the furor over Vermeer, who is known as the Sphinx of Delft because so little is known about him. The Mauritshuis is now having in exhibit of an artist that is even less known. When, where was Vrel born? Where did he work? His works have often been attributed to Vermeer, but now after much research the Mauritshuis is mounting the first ever exhibit dedicated to this phantom of Dutch art. Was he with his quiet interiors and little streets in fact a forerunner of Vermeer?
