Guided Walking Tour: Vincent van Gogh's Life in The Hague

with Ada Boer

(Ada will give a 2nd tour if we have enough interest)

It’s time to dust off those walking shoes and join Ada Boer for an historical walk around The Hague, learning about where Vincent van Gogh lived and worked during his time here.

Ada, a Dutch native speaker with excellent English language skills, is an AWC member and used to be a volunteer at the Ooievaart canal boats tours in The Hague. She has often arranged guided walks around the city and is offering the AWC her guide services on Tuesday, July 2nd. She will tell us all about van Gogh’s work, his passion for painting and about his life.

Vincent van Gogh worked and lived in The Hague over two time periods in his life (1869-1873 and 1881-1883), the second time he seriously started to practice his painting. Living out of the pocket of his brother, he started a very simple life. He met with all the other famous Dutch painters of “The Hague School” and got advice from Mauve and Weissenbruch. Together with De Bock and Maris, they went out to paint at Scheveningen and along the Vliet but mainly he was on his own. He walked and worked all over the center of The Hague.

Ada is going to take us to those places and show us where and what he painted. We will meet at 10:30am at the statue of Johan de Witt (Buitenhof 33, Den Haag). The tour will take around 2 hours.
